MV City of St. Petersburg – a RORO car carrier with unique design meant to reduce fuel consumption.

If our maritime tradition had that much effect, they wouldn’t save any fuel at all, because it’d all be sail driven. The ones who care about tradition (like myself) are almost always the deckhands (like myself,) with a few captains, mates, pilots, and people who are actually there. If you said to the executives who own these things, “we can save a lot of money, but it’ll sacrifice tradition,” they’d say “Good, so there’s no downside.”

Damn shame.
